1. ABIJAH1 GRIFFITH was born 11 May 1794 in Pennsylvania1, and died 28 May 1860 in Kennonsburg, Ohio. He married MARY OVERLEY. She was born 1795 in Pennsylvania1, and died in Ohio or Illinois.

Notes for ABIJAH GRIFFITH: Census before 1850 suggest as many as seven children - four girls and three boys. William and Jesse are the two youngest. I recently (9/9/09) learned that William's middle name might be Butler, but have not been able to prove this. Said source also shows William's father to be "Abijah". The four names of children other then William and Jesse are from information in a letter written to Archer C. Griffith, Abijah's grandson, upon the death of William Griffith. There are two Abijahs that show up on early census, which suggest about a generation difference. It could be that the father of this Abijah is also Abijah. According to the Ohio Mortality Index, Abijah died of Thyphus Located headstone in Kennonsburg, Ohio, a rural spot south of Senecville. Headstone reads Abijah Griffeth, Born May 11, 1791, died May 28, 1860. Age 66 years and 17 days. You will note that the math for his age compared to his span in years does not add up. He may actually have been born in 1794. Next to Abijah's tombstone is an infant stone that reads "Infant of J & N.J. Griffith, Died ____. The stone had sunk into the ground so the year of death was not legible, but Abijah's youngest child, Jessie, married Nancy Jane Stier in May 1856 and the year of death for the infant is believed to be 1857. Also buried in the cemetary is Margaret Griffith Depew, wife of Abraham, and daughter of Abijah. There are several headstones for "Ward" in the cemetery. Martha Jane Griffith, daughter of Abijah, married a Ward, but is believed to be buried in Harper Co., Kansas.
