Pvt Elmore Griffith served in the United States Civil War. Mustered out: mmm dd, yyyy Side: CSA Regiment(s): Company K, 27th Regiment, Alabama Infantry
Emore married Sarah Gauley in Georgia in 1858.[1] They were listed in the death record of their son, Wyatt, in 1940.[2]
In 1860, he and Sarah (aka Sallie) were living in Dale County, Alabama, with an infant son, P. Emett. Elmore was a silversmith.[3]
During the Civil War, Elmore served as a Private in the 27th Regiment of the Alabama Infantry fighting for the Confederacy.[4]
By 1870, the couple had four children (Emett, Fannie, W.C. (possibly Wyatt) and Oliver) and continued to reside in Dale County. Elmore was working as a bookkeeper.[5]
By 1880, the family had added two more daughters, Sallie and May.
Elmore's occupation was again listed as "Silver Smith."[6]
In 1900, the widowed Elmore was head of household and living with daughters, Ora and Fannie, in Dale County, Alabama. Elmore was again listed as a bookkeeper.[7]
By 1910, it was just Elmore and daughter, Fannie, in the home in Pinckard, Dale County, Alabama. Under occupation, the census listed "own income" for Elmore.[8]
He passed away about 1916. The Alabama death records show an E. W. Griffin passing away in 1916 in Dale County, Alabama. This may be Elmore, even though the surname is slightly different.[9]
