Biography

The story we have always been told says that Jane was a Cherokee Indian. James came into the area of Hood's Fork with a shotgun, hunting dog and an Indian wife. He traded the shotgun for a farm. He would never tell the children where he came from. After he died the children asked their mother and she said he would never tell and "I won't either". ^[1]

After James Hensley's death Jane married William Wheeler. She is listed in the 1880 Johnson Co. Census with her daughters Zilpha and Sarah Hensley.

Jane was born about 1828. Jane Griffith ... She passed away after 1850. ^[2]
