Ruth Esther Griffith was born February 17, 1902 to Hervy B. and May J. Watson Griffith in Tonganoxie, Leavenworth County, Kansas.

Ruth Esther Griffith married Edward Otis "Babe" Garrett on January 16, 1926. Their three children were born in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.

Babe farmed on a portion of the land originally owned by Samuel Garrett in the Monticello area of Johnson County.
