Biography

Johann "John" Gottlieb Greim was born on June 27, 1767 (in either Davidson or Rowan County, North Carolina) to parents Jacob Greim and Christina Simmons. He was the youngest of seven children born to their union. [1]
The date of his birth was best estimated using an age calculator; given his date of death listed on his gravemarker and the cemetery record sheet that also listed the precise age at time of death:[2] he died on February 12, 1849 and his age at death was "81 years, 7 months and 15 days". Given these two sets of numbers we can go back and say if they are correct, THEN, his date of birth would have been June 28, 1767.
Any number of "ifs" could be incorrect including variances in the date or perhaps if the date listed was the burial date vs.date of death but in these cases it would be very close.
John Grimes married Christina Darr in Rowan County, North Carolina, United States around 1802 and together they had as many as ten children.
In his will he names "his seven daughters":
  1. Margaret
  2. Catherine
  3. Envy
  4. Sally
  5. Elizabeth
  6. Christina a.k.a. "Tenna"
  7. Barbary
and he names "both sons 'Peter' and 'Alexander' as well as a 'Jacob' (repeatedly). It should be noted in the closing statement he also adds (to his) "much deserved and well loved son-in-law, Jacob Byerly" which supports my belief that they didn't have a 10th child around 1830 due to age and spacing of other children but Jacob was someone he considered a son as Jacob Byerly was the spouse of their youngest daughter "Barbary" or Barbara.[3]
J. G. Greim / Grimes passed away on February 12, 1849 in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States. The aformentioned will was made in 1846,the same county three years prior. (Found here): [4]
His body was intered per his wish at Emanuel Reformed (Lutheran) Church Cemetery [5] of (now) Thomasville, Davidson County, North Carolina.[6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I recently adopted this profile and have been slowly trying to source it and had some great help recently but one thing doesn't seem to fit so I am adding it in the comments for anyone interested in pursuing. There is no reason to believe our Johan John Gottlieb Griem died in Maryland or even traveled there as we have both a church record of his death and his burial records- same church- same area of NC where he was born, married and raised his family. However here is the note directly copied and pasted, respectfully:
"There was a statement about him dying in Maryland but there was another Gottlieb Grimes in Maryland not this man probably a distant cousin. This Gottlieb and his family all lived in Rowan County North Carolina from at least 1793 until death since he is listed in first membership list of Pilgrim Church this area became Davidson County, North Carolina in 1822.
