Research Notes

No further record has been found for this person in Prince George's county. Some researchers believe he migrated west, but no documentation has yet been presented linking this person to the one or more individuals named James Grimes who lived in Ohio (or Kentucky, which is where other Grimes associates migrated). Until further information is unearthed, he is listed here as having died young.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Thank you very much, Kathleen. Much appreciated. Sorry to have needlessly burdened you. Best wishes, Tim

I'm sorry. FamilySearch shows Liza Yeagley as the unknown spouse of Grimes-1402's childen, and I assumed that he was the same as Grimes-2398 who is shown at Liza's children's father despite the difference in the dates of birth and death. I erred and have separated the children from each other and put them either under Grimes-1403 and Grimes-2398. Sorry for having inflicted so much work on so many.

Hi Tim,

I think everything has been straightened out now, the two James Grimes have been detached from Grimes-1402 and their children are with the proper parents (double check that, though!)

The only thing left is that while I changed the profile attached to the three Find A Grave photos you uploaded to the proper person, you might want to get permission to post the photos. The copyright is held by the person who took them, so it is technically against the rules to post FAG photos here.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else!

All the best, Kathleen

Grimes-2398 and Grimes-1402 appear to represent the same person because: Dates and places of birth and death are the same.

Hi Tim,

I am going to hold off on approving this merge for now, since there are several points of confusion here. The dates and places of birth are not the same, for one thing. James Grimes (Grimes-1402), the son of Jeremiah Grimes, was baptized in Prince George's county, Maryland. His parents and siblings were only known to be in PG county; there is no evidence they were ever in Frederick county.

I really only have firm documentation for James Grimes' date and place of birth and his parents. It is possible that he moved to Ohio, but it is also possible that he died young. Someone has added information to this profile about two marriages, which are not *definitively* linked to this man. Similarly, tombstone photos have been added to this profile for two different people named James Grimes -- it is highly unlikely that he had two tombstones! Some untangling needs to happen here.

I recognize that it can be extremely difficult to link people who have "gone west" to their places of origin, and it would be great if this is the correct family, but I think more work has to be done to achieve any measure of confidence that this is the correct link.

I hope (with a little elbow grease) we can find your James' correct placement, whether it is this family or another one!!

All the best, Kathleen
