Biography

"We are not certain of the exact date of his David's birth, but at the time of his death in 1849 it was claimed that he was ninety years old" Based on the 1840 census, he was born between 1760 and 1770. He died between 1840 and 1850.

David Grinstead married Ann Warren 4 Sep 1793 in Louisa Co., Virginia.[1] [2]

In 1818 for the first time David Grinstead is in the Warren Co. tax list. He is "1001", that is, he is a white male over 21 and has one horse. He has no land and pays $.40. In 1819 David Grinstead is again "1001" and pays $.30.

THE WILLIAM GRINSTEAD FAMILY IN AMERICA (Gorrell Shumaker and John L. N. Grinstead, 1974):

pg 12: "David Grinstead was born in VA ca. 1763. On 9-4-1793, he married Ann Warren in Louisa County, VA. They settled in Warren County, KY in 1805. A son, William Warren Grinstead, married Lucy Grinstead, daughter of Jesse."
pg 148: "David Grinstead and Ann Warren were both born in VA, he in Henrico County; she in Louisa County. We are not certain of the exact date of David's birth, but at the time of his death in 1849, it was claimed that he was ninety years of age. David and Ann came to Kentucky in 1805 at which time two of David's brothers, Richard and Philip, also came. David settled in Warren County.
