Giles was born in 1748. He is the son of Giles Griswold and Mercy Chatfield.
He married Eunice Hough, daughter of Ebenezer and Lydia (Buell) Hough, on 22 Dec 1774 - parents of Giles Oliver, Hannah, Jesse, Abner, Sally Wallace, Rosetta, Eunice and Luzzetta Griswold
