Biography

The first record of Jeanne Guerin is her marriage to Pierre LeRoux (abt.1634-1672) . Roughly translated from French, it reads: “Pierre, son of Pierre Le Roux of Calais in the reconqured land, and Jeanne Guering of the country of Artois, have been married in the French Church of this city [Mannheim] 23 January 1656." [1]

She and Pierre baptized four children in Mannheim:

  • Jacques, born December 2, 1656, baptized December 7, 1656;[2]
  • Susanne, born October 9, 1658, baptized October 17, 1658;[3]
  • Marie, born August 11, 1662, baptized August 24, 1662; [4] and
  • Ann, born August 17, 1664, baptized August 21, 1664[5]

According to varying secondary accounts, Pierre, Jeanne and their children Jacques and Susanne arrived in New York on a ship named either “de Trouw” (Hope) or “Dove” or “Dore,” the year was either 1672 or 1678, and Pierre died during the crossing. [Source needed.] The date can be narrowed somewhat since, according to the profile for her son Jacques La Rue (abt.1657-abt.1728), the landing had to have been “before 13 August 1673, when Jacoel Roey, a young man, was recorded in New Harlem, taking the oath of allegiance. There is a tradition that Jacques' father died at sea on the voyage over, and the mother landed in New Amsterdam about 1670…”

Research Notes

The Jeanne Guerin who was the wife of Pierre le Roux and is represented by this profile was not the same woman who was the daughter of Didier Guerin (1639-1646) and Robin (Perrette) Guerin (-1663) and was born in St Jean, Haute-Loire, Auvergne, France. The wife of Pierre was born in Artois, far from Auvergne.

Also, there is no evidence that she died on 13 Apr 1664 in Le Fay-St-Quentin, Oise, France as was previously noted on this profile. She probably died either in Mannheim or in the American Colonies.

Hi, I have a source that has a Jeanne Guerin baptized at St.-Germain-la-ville, Marne, Champagne-Ardenne, France on 10 Apr 1639, father Didier Guerin and mother Perrette Guerin. The source is the Centre Généalogique et Héraldique de la Marne, Title is Marne, France, Birth Index, 1528-1907, author Ancestry.com, publisher is Ancestery.com Operations, date 2008, Provo, UT, USA, repository ancestry.com. Would this be more on point?

Gueren-1 and Guerin-260 appear to represent the same person because: Hi - trying to clean up some duplicates (same spouse & child, Susanna). Do you have sources for this family? Unfortunately this is an area I copied from some other tree before I knew better many years ago... but would love to document.
