Aky Gunter was born about 1798, the daughter of John Gunter a white man, and his Cherokee wife Catherine . [1] She married Alexander McCoy about 1820. They were the parents of one child, Lucy. [2] Aky's date of death is unknown. Alexander married Sarah Hicks in April, 1823 but it is unknown whether Aky was still alive at this time. Aky probably died soon after Lucy's birth since her father's will included "my Grand daughter Lucy McCoy whom I have raised...." [3]
