Biography

Mary Ann Gwartney was born on 10 Dec 1887^[1] in the section of Indian Territory that later became Mayes County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Edward Gwartney (1860-1940) and his first wife, Susie (Ward) Gwartney (1865-1899)

Mary wed Thomas Henry Burgess (1880-1958) on 22 Dec 1905 in Mayes County, OK.^[2] They are reported to have had six children:

• Howard H Burgess (1907-1913)
• Bryant Leon Burgess (1908-1966)
• Lucille A Burgess (1910-?)
• Thomas Henry Burgess Jr (1911-1985)
• Jackson Daniel Burgess (1915-2011)

1920 US Census:^[3] Mary A Burgess was listed as 32yo and born in OK. She was living in Mayes County, OK with her husband Thomas (39; AR) and their children Bryan L (11), Lucile (9), Thomas Jr (8), and Jackson (4).

Mary Ann passed away on 24 Jan 1976 in Pryor Creek, Mayes County, Oklahoma. She is buried in Bryan Chapel Cemetery in Boatman, Mayes Co, OK.^[1]
