Louise was born around 1716, quite possibly in Beaubassin since her family was established there. She was the daughter of Michel Haché dit Gallant and Anne Cormier.[1]
Louise was about 4 years of age when her family moved to Isle Saint-Jean (present-day Prince Edward Island), then a French colony. In 1720, this colony was developed by the Comte de Saint-Pierre and about 300 settlers from France. [2] Michel, who was in his late fifties, and Anne about 46 years of age, left Beaubassin and became one of the first Acadian families to settle there. "French authorities in fact encouraged the Acadians, living under British rule in Nova Scotia since 1713, to move to French territory."[2] A few dozen Acadians followed. [3] "These soldiers, fishermen, farmers and sailors were the first inhabitants of European origin to come and live on the island. Before them, the Indigenous peoples of the Mi’kmaq Nation inhabited what they called Epekwitk, which means cradle on the waves. Michel and Anne lived at Port-La-Joie, close to Charlottetown. [4][5]
She was listed in the 1734 census at Isle Saint-Jean at age 19. [6]
She married Louis Belliveau, son of Jean Belliveau and Cécile Melancon, on 20 June 1735 at Port-la-Joye, Isle Saint-Jean.[7][8]
Louis, a navigator and a ploughman (laboureur) and Louise were listed on the La Roque census in 1752 at Tracadie, Isle Saint-jean[11]
Louise, her husband and their children were among the families who were forcibly removed from their homes during the expulsions of the people of the Acadia settlements. They were found living on Ile Miquelon, Saint Pierre en Miquelon during the time of 1767 Census. Louis is age 56, his wife Louise is age 49. They have 5 children living with them.[12]
Louis passed away at Miquelon in 1775 at the age of about 65. Louise and her children Pierre, Marie, Madeleine, Rosalie, Athanase, and Louise Félicité were exiles at La Rochelle, Aunis (today Charente-Maritime), France, where Louise died on 19th of October 1779 at about 65 years of age, and was buried on the 20th day.[13][1][10] Were present Pierre, Marie and Magdeleine her children, and her sons-in-law François Buote and François (---).
