Mabel was born on Lot 25 on the South Thames Road in Huron County (understood to be Usborne Twp).
The family moved from that farm to Exeter where they lived until all their savings were lost in the failure of a bank. They moved to Kirkton where Charles Hackney (and his brother-in law - need the name) ran the Hackney and Madge Hardware store. After the partnership dissolved the family returned to farming.
Mabel attended school in Exeter and Kirkton where she graduated from Grade 8 (at the age of 11). Economics did not allow the family to continue her education. Then she worked as domestic help in the Motherwell, Ontario until she married Ernest Roger.
They farmed south of Fullarton until they retired to Atwood where Ernie died. Mabel later moved to Maitland Terrace in Listowel and finally to Royal Terrace in Palmerston.
Her interests included knitting, crocheting and tatting.
