Biography

Jessie HADDEN was born in Abt 1854.^[1] She was daughter of Alexander HADDEN (a Farmer) and Jessie SMITH.^[1]

In the 1861 census Jessie (age 7), Scholar, was the daughter of Alexr Hadden in Weaverwalls Of Balthangie, Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire.^[2]

On 27 Jun 1874, she married William RETTIE at Balthangie in the parish of Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[1] She was 20 years old when she married William RETTIE, who was 23 years old at that time.^[1] At the time of her marriage she was described as a Farmer's Daughter At Home living in Balthangie in the parish of Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[1]

In 1881, she lived with her father Alexander and brother George together with her children Jessie (age 7), Isabella (5), John (2) and William (0) at Balnamoon [Croft or Farm?] near New Pitsligo in the parish of Tyrie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[3]

In 1891, she lived with her husband William and their children John (age 12), William (10), twins Alexander and George (4) and James (2) at School Street in New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[4]

In 1901, she lived with her husband William and their children William (age 20), George (14), James (12), Frank (9) and Sarah (7) at 6 School Street in New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[5]

In 1911, she lived with her husband William and their children George (age 24), Frank (19) and Sarah (17) at 6 School Street in New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[6] The census return states that Jessie had been married for 37 years, had had 10 children born alive and that 9 children were still living.^[6]
