Simon Hadley is an NSSAR Patriot Ancestor. NSSAR Ancestor #: P-172164 Rank: PS
Simon Hadley was born in 1737. According to Hinshaw's transcription of the Quaker Meeting minutes from Deep River, his birthdate was 3-5-1736.[1] However, in the Deep Creek minutes, his birth was recorded at 3-5-1737.[2]
Simon married Bridget Foote on 8 March 1756 in Delaware.[3]
Simon and his wife, Bridget, were founding members of the Deep Creek Society of Friends Meeting in Surry (now Yadkin) County, North Carolina. Simon was appointed the recorder of births and deaths in their first sitting on April 6, 1793. Since he then presumably recorded the birth data for himself and his wife, we'll presume them to be accurate! According to Hinshaw's transcription, the Deep Creek minutes read:
Simon Hadley, Sr. b. 3-5-1737, Newcastle Co., Mill Creek Hundred Tn.
Simon signed an oath of fidelity to the newly formed United States of America in 1779 and is listed as a Patriot by the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a Quaker, it is unlikely that he would have served actively in the war.
Simon's death on 24 July 1803 is also recorded in the minutes of the Deep Creek Friends Meeting and he was most likely buried there in the Meeting House Cemetery.
There is a well written biography posted online here.
