In 1847 Baldwin County, Alabama, he married Caroline STEWART, (daughter of William Adam Hollinger & Sarah Stewart). [1] b: 25 Jul 1832 in Rabun, Baldwin County, Alabama. Caroline was a descendant of Red Eagle, a member of the Creek Indian tribe, who were a matrilineal society. They often used their mother's maiden surname when dealing with other Indians, but used their father's surname when dealing with the whites. [2]
Almost all of the Hadleys still in northern Baldwin County, Alabama are descended from this Simon Hadley.
His son John William Hadley was shot and killed in 1894 by the McGills. He apparently took a couple of them with him. His son, Simon Dude Hadley was shot in the hand but escaped on horseback. [3]
