Biography

J.W. was a farmer and blacksmith in Screven County, GA. He was a Confederate veteran and is buried in the Sylvania City Cemetery.

As reported by his grandson, Hugh Hagan, J.W. and his brother, Jasper, were orphaned at an early age. Their parents died in an epidemic and they were taken in by the doctor who treated them and raised on his plantation in South Carolina. The names of their parents are unknown. Jasper did not return form the Civil War.

J. W. Hagan's parents are unknown. They died in a epidemic in South Carolina when J. W. and his twin brother, Jasper, were young. They were raised by the doctor who cared for them on his plantation, Lawton Plantation. Jasper never returned from the Civil War.
