Biography

Funeral services for Barbara Zschech, 57 of Lexington, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale, Texas with Pastor Jan Campbell officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Lexington Cemetery in Lexington. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The Zschech family will be present for visitation Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Barbara passed away suddenly Sunday morning at her home in Lexington. Barbara Jane Hahn Zschech was born on October 19, 1952 in Giddings, Texas to Fritz & Ernestine (Prazak) Hahn. She was united in marriage to Alan Zschech on April 22, 1972 at St. John Lutheran Church in Dime Box, Texas. Barbara was a loving and devoted homemaker, wife and mother who was also the secretary and bookkeeper for her husband's veterinarian business in Lexington. She had also worked as a ticket writer at many sale barns in the area including Lexington, Caldwell, Milano, West and Schulenberg. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale where she served as the vice-president of the congregation and taught Sunday School. Barbara was also a member of the Lexington Log Cabin Association and had been a volunteer at St. John Lutheran School in Lincoln, Texas. She enjoyed working with children, cooking, sewing and taking care of her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Monroe Zschech. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Alan Zschech, DVM of Lexington; 2 sons, Gus Zschech and John Zschech both of Lexington; 2 brothers, Melvin & Frances Zgabay of Caldwell and Arthur & Angela Hahn of Brenham; mother-in-law, Laura Zschech of Brenham; sister-in-law, Mary Ann & Gary Blair of Houston as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be John Maruska, Morgan Wendland, Keith Bexley, Mike Iselt, Gary Blair, Alan Burns, Rodney Exner and Kenny Mingus. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 308, Rockdale, Texas 76567 or the charity of one's choice.
