Biography

Rebecca, b. about 1744; m. ROBERT REA. It was reported to Hopewell MM, Va., 10 mo. 7, 1765, that she had married out to one not a member, and contrary to her mother's advice, for which she was disowned 12 mo. 2, 1765. She made acknowledgment for marrying out on 8 mo. 5, 1771, and this acknowledgment was reported, read and recorded 9 mo. 2, 1771. Robert Rea, being recommended by Crooked Run PM, was received into membership of Hopewell MM 11 mo. 4, 1771. On 3 mo. 6, 1775, he was appointed overseer of Crooked Run PM, and his children ANN, JOHN, JOSEPH and ALLEN were received into membership of Hopewell MM. there were two other children, HANNAH and REBECCA, who were born later. Robert and Rebecca Rea and their daughter Rebecca were received Miami MM, O, 1 mo. 31, 1810, from Crooked Run MM on certificate dated 1 mo. 3, 1807. they settled in Zane Twp., Logan Co., O.

1.) ANN REA

2.) JOHN REA, m. Jan. 6, 1789, FRANCES WILLIAMS. He was reported to Crooked Run MM, Va., for marrying out of unity, and was disowned, 3 mo. 5, 1789. Their family has not been learned, but there was at least one child, HANNAH, who m. THOMAS GARWOOD, son of John Garwood and Esther {4} Haines (Carlile {3}, Richard {2}, Richard {1}). Hannah Rea was Thomas Garwood's 2d wife. Thomas Garwood's 1st wife was his 2d wife's aunt, also named Hannah Rea. [Ref: Records furnished by Earle M. Gree. 3.) JOSEPH REA, b. 5 mo., 15, 1769; d. Sept. 7, 1835; m. Culpeper, under the care of Crooked Run MM, Va., 5 mo. 17, 1792, SUSANNAH GARWOOD, b. 2 mo. 25, 1771; d. HANNAH (REA) GARWOOD, b. 1778; d. 1815; m. at a MH in Culpeper Co., under the care of Crooked Run MM, Va., 11 mo. 16, 1797, THOMAS GARWOOD, b. 11 mo. 7, 1778; d. 1837; son of John Garwood and Esther {4} Haines (Carlile {3}, Richard {2}, Richard {1}). 6.) REBECCA (REA) STRATTON, m. Darby Creek, under the care of Miami MM, O. 9 mo. 5, 1811, Joel Stratton, son of Joseph and Naomi (Quinn) Stratton of Champaign Co., O. They resided in Zane Twp., Logan Co., O. Children - (i) RACHEL, (ii) NAOMI, (iii) SUSANNA (iv) REBECCA, (v) JOEL, (vi) ELIZABETH, (vii) DAVID.
