David Haines was born 27 Jan 1717 to William and Mary (Lewis) Haines, the sixth of 10 children. David was born in Greenland and became a farmer. Soon after his marriage to Lydia Cate he removed to Epping, spending the remainder of his days there. He and Lydia had 10 known children. He owned what is now the Heading Camp-ground for a farm. His will was dated March 17, 1780 and proved the same year. He died at the age of sixty-three, and was buried near the present Camp-ground.

The different birth dates for David are probably the result of a misreading of someone's script. The microfilm image was not available to check. Since most of his siblings were born in the winter it is likely that the January date is the correct one. The marriage date is estimated based on the birth date of David and Lydia's first child.
