Biography

Mary Arabelle "Bell" Haines was born about 1846 in Maine, and died on February 24, 1871. She was the daughter of John and Pamelia (Additon) Haines.

Levi Bridgham married Mary Arabelle “Bell” Haines in Dexter, Maine on June 10, 1865. He was born in Dexter, Maine on September 16, 1841

In 1870, 27-year-old Levi Bridgham of Dexter, was a clerk in a store, with a personal estate worth $500. Included in his family was 24-year-old Mary A., a milliner. Both were living in the household of 30-year-old William and 27-year-old Amea Adams. Mary was five-months pregnant at this time.

Bell (Haines) Bridgham died in Dexter on February 24, 1871, at the young age of 25. Her only child was only three months old.

Levi Bridgham died of pleuro pneumonia in Dexter on May 1, 1895 at the age of 53.

Research Notes

A Maine Record of Birth list "Mary Haskell Haines," born March 30, 1846, probably in Dexter, to John F. and Pamela (Additon) Haynes. Her middle name does not match. Still, this has to be her.

"Narrative of the Town of Machias", p. 366, lists Levi's wife's name as Bell Haines. Family notes identify her as "Pamela", surname unknown.

"Maine State Archives" lists her name as M. Belle Haines.

In Dexter, June 10th, by Rev. B. S. Arey, Mr. Levi Bridgham and Miss M. Belle Haines, daughter of John F. Haines, Esq, both of Dexter.

The 1870 census shows a 24-year-old milliner, Mary A. Bridgham, living with Levi Bridgham in Dexter, Maine. Presumably, this is Mary Arabelle.
