William Haines was born in Burlington County, New Jersey in 1705/6. He was the eldest child born to Joseph Haines and his first wife, Dorothy. (Dorothy's surname is unknown, but she was possibly a Leeds).
William died a few days after his first birthday on March 5, 1706/7. He is buried at the Brick Meeting House Cemetery in Calvert, Cecil County, Maryland. At the time of his death, the Brick Meetinghouse was the East Nottingham Meetinghouse and was located in Chester County, Pennsylvania. After the surveying of the Mason-Dixon Line in 1767, this portion of Chester County, Pennsylvania became Cecil County, Maryland.
