Nancy McGuire Hair was the 5th of 10 children of John Hair (IRE) and Margaret Cathcart Strahan (PA). Her father John arrived in New York from Ireland in 1823 and moved immediately west to Randolph County, IL where he married Margaret C. Strahan 3 months later. John purchased his first lots of land in 1836 in T4SR5W near Boyds, McDills, Wyllies, Burns, Smiths and Gaults, all Presbyterians from Ireland and Scotland. Nancy married Robert C. Wyllie, son of Adam C. and Jean Wyllie.
Nancy and Robert had 5 children with Edward and Robert Luther preceeding his parents in death. Adam Wyllie owned a lot of land, but after his brother Alexander died in the Civil War, the family began breaking up. Robert continued to farm a small section but as the family moved west and married, the acreage was sold. Nancy and Robert moved to Sparta where Robert primarily worked as a carpenter building many of the homes of family and friends.
