Biography

Joshua Norman Haldeman was born in 1902 at Pequot Lakes, Crow Wing County, Minnesota.[1] His parents were John Haldeman and Almeda Norman.

Norman J Haldeman, age 2 appears with his parents at Montevideo, Chippewa, Minnesota, in the U.S., Territorial and State Census of 26 June 1905. [2]

In 1916 Joshua Norman Alderman, age 13 is living at Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada with his mother and step father Heseltine Wilson). Also living with them are Joshua's sister, Almeda Rowena Haldeman, and step sister Annie Madge Wilson. The family also had two lodgers Ben Greening (33) and Ernest Zimmerman (25).[3]

Joshua Norman Haldeman and Wanda Eva Peters married on 28 December 1927 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.[4] Joshua and Wanda had four children.

On the 8th of October 1940 Joshua was arrested by the Canadian Mounted Police.[5] The charges were for being a member of an illegal organization (Technocracy Incorporated).[6] In 1940 charges were filed against Joshua, a "former Regina chiropractor and former director of Technocracy, Incorporated."[7] No verdict was found in the newspapers. Dr. J. N. Haldeman and Win-fred Josephine Fletcher married on 7 June 1942 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.[8] In 1945 he was nominated Social Credit candidate for Prince Albert in the general election.[9] Joshua was set to oppose Prime Minister Mackenzie King, who was nominated Liberal standardbearer.[9]

Dr. Joshua Norman Haldeman and his wife, Winnifred Josephine "Wyn" (Fletcher), amateur archaeologist, were adventurous and flew the family around the world in a prop plane in 1952. For over ten years, the family would spend time roaming the Kalahari desert in search of its fabled Lost City of the Kalahari. They gave slide shows and talks about their journeys and were world famous for their travels.

Joshua and Wyn sold "everything" before leaving for South Africa, then shipped the car and a few other things to Montreal.[10] They travelled aboard the Thorshall for thirty days to reach their destination.[10] In a letter written later, Joshua revealed that he had been seasick for the entire trip.[10] They camped for ten days at Muizemberg Beach while a plane was organized to take them to Port Elizabeth.[10] They couldn't find available office space, so he purchased a home and split part of it off for his office. The property contained a sunken rose garden in the front, where roses bloomed almost year round.[10]

Joshua passed way in 1974 at Brits, Transvaal, South Africa[11]
