Biography

Frederick was a lumber merchant, He was elected to represent Carleton County as a Member of Parliament in the spring election of 1887. He was a director of the Saint John Valley Railway.

HALE & MURCHIE lumber mill on the St. John River, ca 1897. Frederick Hale partnered with George A. Murchie of Calais, Maine to build this mill, measuring 175 ft. by 40 ft. A gang, rotary, two lath machines and a planer comprised the main equipment. According to The Canadian Lumberman (October 1898) the firm cut about 12,000,000 feet of logs cut from its 154 square miles of holdings on the Tobique River.
