Biography

William Hale was born on October 2, 1889 in Wythe, Virginia, United States.[1] His parents were John Hale and Frances Shupe.[2][3]

He married Emma Elizabeth "Polly" Barker on December 26, 1911.[4] They lived in Wythe County, Virginia.[5] Together they had 8 children:

  2. Jessie James Hale, b. 29 Jan 1917
  3. Thelma Gladys Hale, b. 11 Jul 1918
  4. Ollie Marie Hale, b. 22 Aug 1920 (twin)
  5. Annie Louise Hale, b. 22 Aug 1920 (twin)
  6. John Edward Hale, b. 21 Feb 1923
  7. Roy Pierce Hale, b. 3 Mar 1925
  8. Mary McClure Hale, b. 2 May 1927

William was shot and killed by a drunk person (reportedly a former friend) on June 29, 1927.[6] He was only 37 years old. He left behind his wife and 8 small children, including his youngest who was just over 1 month old.
