I believe that Sophronia Hale is the daughter of Ruth Berry and Curtis Hale each of which were married previously.

Ruth Berry was married to David Rich and he abandoned her with 5 or six children when he ran off with their wet nurse approximately 1793. David eventually had 5 or 6 more children with this woman (Mrs Hannah Hathaway).

Since Sophronia was born in VT in 1807 and Curtis appears to have died in 1810. they would not have been married long. I have not yet found a marriage between Curtis Hale and Ruth Berry or Ruth Rich. However one of the family letters I own is in her handwriting and signed as Ruth Hale. Also, she may have been involved as the executor of his estate. I need to follow up on that.
