Biography

Mary Hale was born about 1765 ^[1] in Plantation, Guisborough, Yorkshire, England.^[2] She was christened on June 19th, 1768 in Broxbourne, Hertford, England. ^[3]

Her parents were John Hale and Mary Chaloner.^[3]

She married Thomas Lewin on February 2nd, 1784 in Guisborough, Yorkshire. ^{[1][4][5][6][7][8][9]} Together they had 6 children:

1. Richard John. Born 1788. ^[10]
2. Harriet. Born in 1792 and married George Grote. She passed away in 1878.
3. Charlotte. Born in 1797 and married Thomas Lewin.
4. Frederick Mortimer. Born 1798, Frederick married Augusta Diana Babington in India and had one known daughter, Diana. He passed away in 1877. ^[11]
5. Frances Elsa. Born 1804. ^[12]
6. George Herbert. Born in 1808, George married Mary Friend and went on to have five children including Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Herbert Lewin and William Terriss. He passed away in 1856.
7. Edward Bernard Hale. Born in 1810 and married Maria Matilda Rivaz. He passed away in 1878. ^[13][14]
8. William. Born in 1805, William married Jane Elizabeth La Primaudaye. He passed away in 1846.
