I am writing this story because if I don't write it, it will never be written. Frank Haley, Sr. was the farm hand at the home of Irvin Gilbert Groth (b: 1859). Mary Katherine Groth (b: 1886) was Irvin's daughter and it is said, she was very much in love with Frank Haley. As family story goes, they wanted to marry, however, Frank was Catholic and Mary's mom and dad said that she could not marry him. It is said, my grandmother, Goldie Isabell Groth was born of this love relationship. Goldie was born in the winter time. Her "mother" Rebecca Olive Tyrell would have been 41 years old and the child prior to Goldie was born 10 years earlier AND she had a still born child somewhere between. Goldies "sister" Mary Katherine would have been 20 years old ... the birth was not registered until the spring. You decide. --BD from Doris.
