Biography

Andrew was a fisherman at the Isles of Shoals by 1653 along with the three Kelly brothers and was called the "King of the Shoals". He settled on Smuttynose Island which was later called Haleys Island and his descendants lived there for the next 250 years. He built a sea-wall to connect two islands and improve the harbor, fourteen rods long, thirteen feet high and fifteen feet wide.

In 1662 with Thomas Donnell he bought the Edward Johnson homestead in York from John Pearce and sold his half in 1684 when he was living at Spruce Creek:

In 1667 Mr. Robert Elliot paid his fine for swearing and blasphemy. Andrew had been swearing blasphemously many desperate oaths, for which he was reproved by Robert Mendum who was one of the grand jury. Andrew swore "again, very desperately, several oaths and said he would put the said Mendum in his pocket."

Gowen Wilson gave Andrew 11 acres of his lot on Brians Point on Spruce Creek as a marriage dowry 2 June 1684:

I have removed Mary West and Thomas Haley as the parents for Andrew - please see the documentation on West-1610 for the reasons.

Haley-2026 and Haley-849 appear to represent the same person because: The whole line of Haley-2028 married to West-9151 appears to be a duplicate of the Haley-270 line for several generations. I am proposing mergers of the entire line.

"Andrew Haley" is the correct name for the gentleman married to Deborah Wilison. Additionally, both of these profiles have problems with the parents; Andrew Haley of Kittery is suspected to be a close relation to the first Thomas Haley of Saco, although there's no strong evidence. He is certainly not a descendant of Thomas Haley of Saco, since those are well documented for the time period - see Walter Goodwin Davis's Ancestry of Charity Haley and related works. I would recommend the parents be unlinked after the merge.

Are we sure of the parentage of Andrew Haley? It shows he was born in England, but his parents were married in Maine and I don't believe Mary ever traveled to England. There's also evidence that Mary only had the four children, based on her father's disposition of his property upon his death.

Haley-851 and Haley-849 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person.
