Grace Hall was born on June 15, 1872 in Chicago, Illinois. [1] Her parents were Ernest Hall and Caroline Hancock. [1]
She appeared in the 1880 US census in Chicago. [2] She was living with her parents, her brother Leicester, her uncle Benjamin Hancock, and a woman named Lena Hacker. [2]
Grace married Clarence Hemingway on October 1, 1896 in Oak Park, Illinois. [3] They had six children:
She appeared in the 1900 US census in Cicero Township, Illinois. [5] She was living with her husband and two children. [5]
She appeared in the 1910 US census in Oak Park, Illinois. [6] She was living with her husband, four children, uncle Benjamin Hancock, and two servants. [6]
She appeared in the 1920 US census in Oak Park. [4] She was living with her husband, six children, and a servant named Jennie Figek. [4]
She died of a cerebral hemorrhage on June 28, 1951 at the Shelby County Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. [7] She was removed to the Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park, Illinois on June 28, 1951. [7] She is buried there. [8]
Her biography in "Woman's Who's Who of America" [9] says:
[...] ed. Chicago private and public schools, 1879-87; Oak Park High School, 1886-91; in N.Y. City with Mme. Cappiani, 1895-96; [...] Debut at Madison Square Garden Theatre as contralto soloist with the Apollo Club of N.Y. City in 1896. Director of children's vested choir and orchestra of the Third Congregational Church of Oak Park. Favors woman suffrage. Mem. Suburban Civics Club. Congregationalist. Mem. Drama League, Kindergarten Ass'n, Fine Arts Soc., Hospital Auxiliary. Recreation: Outdoor sports. Mem. Nineteenth Century Club.
