There are no quality sources provided to show that his wife was Pease Farmer; she may not even have existed. See her profile for further information. Also, the marriage location given is almost 200 miles from Pease's supposed birthplace, and almost 150 miles from his birthplace, making this unlikely for the two of them as well. Pease Farmer has been removed as his wife until quality sources are found to support her existence, and their marriage.
John Ellis Hall is said to have been born in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, England, in November 1586. He was the son of Thomas Ellis Hall (1567-1630), of Melton, Suffolk, England; and his wife Margaret (Brooke) Hall (1569-1655).
Correction: there is no proof that Thomas "Ellis" Hall married Margaret Brooke, or that she even existed. She supposedly married both Thomas Ellis, and Thomas Ellis Hall who both supposedly died in 1630.
In 1609, John Ellis Hall married Pease Farmer, b. 1590-1619, from Coventry, Warwickshire.[1]
Pease was the daughter of Sir John Farmer of Ansley, Warwickshire, and his wife, Isabella (Barbage) Farmer. Sir John was given a title during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was born ca. 1565 in Ansley and he died before 1600. His parents were Bartholomew Farmer, b. 1542 in Radcliffe, Lancashire, and d. December 22, 1564, in England, and his wife Ursala (Mattes) Farmer, b. 1549 in Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire, and d. 1609, in England.[2]
John E. and Pease (Farmer) Hall had four sons, all born in England, before she died in Ashburton, Devonshire, England, on May 21, 1619, shortly after giving birth to her youngest son: Ralph Hall. Their descendant and family historian states that he presumes John Ellis Hall emigrated to America sometime after the death of his wife. Other sources say that John Hall and 3 of his sons (the 4th may have died in England) were passengers on the "James" in 1633.[3]
The following are listed as the 3 sons of John & Pease Hall that emigrated to Massachusetts on the "James," landing in October 1633:
John Hall and his 3 sons are said to have settled first at Yarmouth, Mass.; nothing is known of John Sr.'s activities there. His son Nathaniel married a Mary Wilcox in Massachusetts. His son John founded the church in Charleston, Mass., where he was Deacon; he married Elizabeth Learned in 1642 and moved to Dover, NH and had several children. Ralph Hall became a Lieutenant in the Massachusetts militia, married a local woman named Mary (Unknown) and lived near his brother John in Dover NH.
John Ellis Hall's descendant, Michael Davis, states that he died March 23, 1676, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts.[4]
