Biography
Her birthdate is calculated from the information on her death record.[1]
There is a Sara A. Scruton in Jonathan and Betsey's household in the 1860 Census -- the birthdate does not match this Sarah, and it would have been prior to the marriage of Sarah and James. The odd thing is that Sarah wasn't listed in the household until 1860, so I'm taking a giant leap and assuming that this is the same Sarah that James married as his second wife.. Further proof of my theory: Sarah's parents are living in the household of Sarah's brother, Joel, in 1860, and she is not listed in that household. -- Fiscus-32 11:50, 21 April 2015 (EDT)[2]
In 1880, Sarah and James are living in Farmington, NH with six children. This census gives Sarah's birthdate as 1835 rather than 1833, which is what was estimated on her marriage record.[3]
