No definitive sources are found for Elizabeth's birth. A speculation of who her father may be and where she was born could come from the details of her husband, son, and father-in-law's lives, and from census, tax, and will/probate records. Elizabeth's son, Elisha Hall Callaway was born in 1789 in Delaware. Her husband, Levin Callaway, Jr. was born in Somerset County, Maryland which is near Sussex County, Delaware. Her father-in-law, Levin Callaway, Sr., died in Sussex County, Delaware. Reviewing the census, tax, and will/probate records for Sussex County, Delaware in the years around 1770, an estimate for Elizabeth's birth year, there are two men named Hall: James Hall and Samuel Hall. James definitely had a daughter named Elizabeth. Unfortunately, at the time of his death in 1795, Elizabeth was still referred to by her maiden name which would be after the birth of Elisha, and her married sisters were referred to by their married names. Samuel Hall has less detailed records, and although there is an index indicating a will, the will is unavailable. It is possible that Samuel could be her father, and the will would confirm.
Elizabeth was likely born sometime between 1770 and 1775, married Levin Callaway, Jr. in Delaware, and although uncertain, probably died in Georgia where her last son was born in about 1807, and where her husband was known to have died in about 1852. [1]
