DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:

It sounds to me as if you are on top of this person and since I was only trying to source an unsourced profile, I will leave it to you. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comment.

I completely understand, and thank you! It is frustrating that someone would write in a history from over 100 years ago and confuse future descendants trying to do research! Thankfully DNA sorted this decades-long Hall confusion and linked us all to the Taunton Hall line. We're also lucky that the Vermont Halls of the Vermont NEK (Northeast Kingdom) were relatively sedentary and remained in Vermont except for my 5th great grandfather Moses, son of Jacob, who decided to follow others to Shipton, Quebec. I am starting with Moses and working backwards.

Insane, but at least it isn't the New York/Vermont frontier of 1790-1820 where there are hardly any records!!!

I'm going to have to work on this profile and sourcing- it's pretty sparse! This is the wrong Jacob Hall you found... Jacob Hall of Barnet, VT died in 1840 in Hartford, Windsor, VT. DNA has proven that descendants of Jacob Hall are of the George Hall of Taunton line, which extends from George to Samuel to Samuel to Enoch, Sr. to Jacob. The Hall brothers founded Barnet, VT in the 18th century, and they were Jacob, Elijah and Daniel- all three of them. There is no proof that this Daniel is the father of Jacob and Lydia is his mother, but there is DNA proof of genetic connections to Enoch Hall, Sr. It doesn't help that an older secondary source confused Daniel. Their brother Enoch Hall, Jr. is memorialized in Isle La Motte, Vermont for his service in the Revolution.

Enoch Hall, Sr:

  • 1739 Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire
  • Residence, Between 1747 and 1764, Hinsdale, Cheshire County, New Hampshire
  • Residence 22 Jun 1765, Haverhill, Grafton County, New Hampshire
  • Died 1770, Newbury, Orange County, Vermont

Enoch Sr.'s son Elijah, Jacob's brother, had a son, Levi who lived in Barnet, VT. If Elijah was the brother of Jacob, Daniel isn't the father of Jacob. http://www.johnlisle.com/newenglandhall/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I1657&tree=NewEnglandHall

  • Moses Hall's eldest son was named Enoch. I find it hard to believe that he would name his eldest son Enoch but not have any sons named Daniel.

We have our own Master File for Halls thanks to John Lisle, which is the link above.
