US Census of 1870, Choctaw County, MS, Township 21, Range 8, Page#8. Dated 28 September 1870, Family and Dwelling#62

Census taker presumably wrote the middle name incorrectly as "Thompson," rather than as "Thomas." However, middle name could have correctly been "Thompson." The wife, Eliza A., was the DNA verified sister of the Elizabeth Shaw three houses prior and married to Mr. Hugh Shaw. The first two children, Mary Jane and John Will, were the children of Eliza by her prior marriage - she was the widow of a Confederate soldier killed in the fighting about 1863, (a Mr. Benjamin Perry of Winfield, AL, son of Wiley Perry) when she married J.T. Hall. George Wiley Hall, born in 1866 and 3 years of age at the time of the census, was their first child together. Their second child, my Great Grandfather, was Jason Thomas Hall, born 1873.

According to family history/word of mouth, J.T. Hall's remains lie buried at the Old Greensboro cemetery, Choctaw County, MS. Many grave markers were destroyed in the nineteen seventies and early eighties by a negligent timber company, and previously by unsupervised teenage boys doing mischief. No grave marker bearing Mr. Hall's name has yet been found, though I only live 1.5 miles from the cemetery in present day Webster County, MS.

I was told J.T. Hall lived in Fayette, GA prior to living in Webster/Choctaw County, MS, and was a blacksmith. Also, believed to have been a Confederate soldier.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:
