Biography

Lydia Hallett was born to Joseph Hallett and Lydia Alsop in 1732 at Hallett's Point in Newtown, Queens New York.[1]

In 1755, she married widower Jacob Blackwell in New York City.[2]

They had several children together:[3]

Her husband Jacob died in 1780, leaving to Lydia an enslaved woman named Belinda, and allowing Lydia, in her widowhood, use of a third of Blackwell's Island and "her choice of any room in the house [in Newtown] in which [he then dwelt]".[3]

She lived in the home in Newtown until her death in 1812 (Feb 26).[6] She was buried in the Blackwell burying ground that her husband had devised.[7]
