Death of Edward Halsey

The subject of this sketch was born August 9, 1815 and departed this life, Oct. 20, 1904, being 89 years, two months, and eleven days old. On Sept 25, 1838 he was married to Eliza Ann Tubbs. They walked life's path together for over 60 years, and she proved herself a superior woman, as a homekeeper, a wife, a mother, a friend. Her death occurred, Sept 14, 1899.

Mr. and Mrs. Halsey were blessed with nine children, seven of whom are still living, five sons and two daughters; also fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The sons are Charles and Dean of Mich., Edward and Frederick of Fernwood, N.Y., and Albert of Mexico, N.Y. The daughters are Mrs. Ellen Presley of Boylston, N.Y. and Mrs. Julia Cogswell of Orwell, N.Y. In May 1900 Mr. Halsey was married to his second wife Mrs. Lida Anderson, who faithfully and patiently cared for him down to the close of his earthly life. Mr. Halsey was a man endowed with a remarkably bright intellect, which blessing he enjoyed until but a few days previous to his death. This gift was shown in a marked degree in the able sermons which he preached during his early manhood. He was also possessed of rare business talent, having by industry and prompt attention to business matters amassed a fine property. The writer in his deal with Mr. Halsey always found him prompt, honorable and upright in every particular. The funeral services occurred at his late residence Saturday, Oct 22, conducted by Rev. M.D. Warburton of Texas, N.Y., who took for his text, Job 5,26 "Thou shalt come to thy grave in full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in his season"
