[Note: Boston records show marriage to John Goldthwaite on March 21, 1715 (? 1716), however his first wife's death is noted to be in Oct. 1715]

[Note: Their are Halsey baptisms recorded at 2nd Church Boston. Cannot confirm they are of John and Jane, although they did have at least one daughter Mary Halsey. ]

[Note: Was her first husband John Halsey, the privateer/pirate? see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Halsey]

Biography

Jane Tawley or Taley, was born at Boston, March 2, 1682 to Thomas and Mary Tawley. [1]

She married first, on December 10, 1700, John Halsey at Boston. [2] John's will was presented to the court on January 1, 1714/5. [3]

She had five children by her second husband. [4] Their baptisms were recorded at the Second Church, Boston.

She died June 25, 1766. [5]

* Mrs. Jane Goldthwaite had a brother, John Tawley of Marblehead, cooper, and a sister, Hannah, who m. David Buddy and Mr. Waldo. After the death of their father, their mother, the widow Mary Tawley, married John Indicott of Boston, cooper, and died a widow in 1718-19. John Indicott was a warden of King’s Chapel. He died Dec. 7, 1711, ae. 70. His children dying without issue, his wife’s children by Mr. Tawley received a portion of his property. They also had legacies from an aunt, the Widow Jane Haberfield, formerly widow of Benjamin Bagsworth, mariner, of Boston ; she left, in her will of Dec. 19, 1719, ; £100 and several articles of silver plate to Mrs. Jane Goldthwaite’s daughter, Mary Halsey, and a small bequest to her son, Thomas Goldthwaite, then an infant. A house and land with part of a wharf near Fort Hill, formerly the property of Benjamin Bagsworth, who had no children, also came from her to the Tawley family.

John Halsey and Jane Taly were married Dec. 10, 1700, by Rev. Cotton Mather. Besides the daughter Mary, they had Jane, John, and perhaps others who died in childhood. The will of John Halsey of Boston, mariner, made Jan. 7, 1700, proved Jan. 1, 1714, gave all to beloved wife, Jane. His inventory, consisting of personal property only, amounted to £79 ; among the items are 34½ ounces of silver plate, and a negro woman valued at £ 25. He seems to have had a brother, Joseph Halsey. Great profile/biography. It introduces a number of family connections to research. Looking at the link to the Goldthwaite Genealogy the spelling of Jane's sister Hannah's first husband appears to be "Buckly" instead of Buddy. Thanks.

Additionally, from Vol. 159 of the NEHG Register "Marriages noted by Cotton Mather," Jane's mother was Mary Talbot Tawley wife of Thomas Tawley. Mary Talbot was the d/o William and Cecily _____Talbot. One of the footnotes goes into the details of that entry.

Halsey-281 and Tawley-1 appear to represent the same person because: Same first name, same husband, "Halsey" was name of her first husband
