Biography
Jessie was baptised in Govan, Lanarkshire, Scotland on 9 October 1851.[1] She was the daughter of Matthew Hamilton and Sarah Ann (Brown) Hamilton.
At the time of the 1871 UK Census Jessie (19) is living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England with her parents and several siblings.[2]
Emigrated to Australia ...
She married Henry Hulbert Metcalfe on 25 March 1879, at St Andrews, Walkerville, Adelaide, South Australia.[3]
They had children:
- Henry Ernest Metcalfe (1879-1917)
- Ellen Mary Metcalfe (1881-)
- Marion Sarah Metcalfe (1882-)
- Dorothy Caroline (Metcalfe) Broadfoot (1884-1945)
- George Hamilton Metcalfe (1887-1979)
After time spent in Adelaide the family emigrated to New Zealand; settling in Auckland by the early 1890s.
She passed away in August 1928, aged about 78 years,[4][5] and is buried in Purewa Cemetery, Auckland.[6]
