He lived at Tollymore, County Down, Ireland
James Hamilton, of Tollymore, co. Down, married the Hon. Anne Mordaunt, grand-daughter of John Mordaunt, 1st Earl of Peterborough, "and sister to Mrs. Hamilton, of Bangor", co. Down.

He died in 1700. Will dated 28 December 1693, proved on 6 August 1700. [1]
It is possible that Sophia and possibly Cary are not the daughters of Anne Mordaunt. They may be the daughters of an unknown second wife. They are mentioned together in his 1693 will.
