A FAMILY STORY is told that when Loman Ward was coming west (1910) to CA from WV on the train, Halley's Comet was showing in the sky. The train stopped to view the comet and some people, scared, got off the train and knelt on the ground and prayed. (This was after the 1910 Wetzel Co., WV census was taken, as he is living with sister Annie Jane Whoolery.) Loman was not married at this time. Roy Hamilton, Loman's brother, was working for Union Oil in Coalinga, CA. His brother Roy told Loman that there was a job opening and to come to California and he would have a job. This story was told to Penny Stowe by her father, James M. Hamilton, on 13 April 1997.
