N278Retired Lecta Postmaster James T. Hamilton, 83, Dies Unexpectedly
James T. Hamilton, 83, of 544 Second Ave., was found dead at his home around 9 a.m., today. He had been ill the past two weeks.
Mr. Hamilton, a retired farmer, storekeeper, and postmaster at Lecta for 33 years, was born Aug. 30, 1888, at Clipper Mills, son of the late Thomas and Rachael Rose Hamilton.
He married Esta Elizabeth Wiseman on May 23, 1914. She preceded him in death in April, 1967.
He is survived by a son, Frank Hamilton, Lower River Rd. One son, John, preceded him in death. One sister, Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Riggs, preceded him in death.
Six grand and three greatgrandchildren survive. Two brothers and one sister survive: Robert Ray Hamilton, Indianapolis, Ind.; Jehu Hamilton, Westerville, and Mrs. Edith Featherstone, Los Angeles.
One brother, Charles, preceded him in death. One sister, Mrs. Mary Cornwell preceded him in death.
The Hamiltons moved to Gallipolis from Lecta in 1950. He was a member of the Okey Chapel Church, Lecta, and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Gallipolis. He was a member of the Ohio Valley Grange.

N279Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Mound Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home between 6-9 p.m., on Friday. (Appeared in the Gallipolis Daily Tribune 9 Nov 1971.)
Found Selective Service Registration Card on Ancestry.com, dated 5 Jun 1917. He was married with a family living in Ironton, Lawrence Co., OH. He was a traveling salesman for the JR Watkins Medical Co.
