Janet Hamilton, is stated to be a natural daughter of Prebendary Robert Hamilton, who held the prebend of Kincardine.[1] Prebend Hamilton was said to have come from Some and Sanquhar branch of the house of Hamilton. Under the rules of the day, Hamilton could not have married.
She married Alexander Burnet, later Baron Leys, who was a son and heir to Alexander Burnet of Colonach and his wife Agnes Lechtoun. The marriage likely occurring well prior to 1540 as 5 children are noticed, with maturity, in 1543.
Janet Hamilton was alive in 1557. She had died prior to 1567 as Alexander had entered into a second marriage with Marjory Forbes, daughter of John, 6th Lord Forbes, and widow of Forbes of Brux.[2]
