"David married Anna Hamilton, daughter of Hamilton of Dalzell, in 1667. Five children survived to adulthood. David disponed the barony to his eldest son, James Boswell, in 1702. About that time he was "afflicted with a palsy" that impaired his memory, and he spent the last years of his life in seclusion at Auchinleck, where he died in 1712."
What follows in this narrative is by his grandson, Lord Auchinleck: Anne Hamilton was a lady of eminent piety with whom my grandfather lived happily. They were both extremely frugal and diligent managers and strove hard to save thefamilyfrom ruin, and, having applied her portion, which was over 10,000 merks toward thepayment of the debt, they sold off all that part ofthe Barony which lies above the church to William, Earl of Dundonald the year conform to Dispositions in our Charter Chest, and Lord Dundonald gave it to John Cockrane of Waterside, 2nd son to Sir John Cockrane of Ochiltree, his own 2nd son. The price paid for the lands by the Earl was . This sum being likewise applied for payment of the debt enabled them to keep the remainder of the estate though still under considerable burden. They had five children, 2 sons and 3 daughters who were all virtuous and diligent and concurred to the utmost of their power in their several stations to promote the good of the family
