Jocelyn Campbell Patrick Hamilton was born in 1900, a son of Douglas James Hamilton and Margaret Frances (Hely-Hutchinson) Hamilton. In 1904, his surname was legally changed to "Proby".
He studied at Magdalen College, University of Oxford, England (United Kingdom). He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1921, a Bachelor of Literature degree in 1924 and a Master of Arts degree in 1926.
In 1923, he was admitted to the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.
He studied also at the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Missouri, United States of America.
He married Elisabeth Angelique Kerr, daughter of William Kerr and Marion Kerr of Toronto, Canada, in 1930.
He was a lecturer in history at the Univerity of Toronto.
His first wife passed away in 1962, and he married Katherine (Simpson) Fock in 1969.
Jocelyn Proby passed away in 1993 in Northamptonshire, England. [1]
He is buried in the churchyard of All Saints' Church, Overend, Elton, Cambridgeshire, England.
