Most on-line genealogies say the William Hamilton who was born around 1705 in Ulster, Ireland, and who married Alice Mann, and emigrated to America, dying in Augusta County, Virginia, about 1762, came from Audley Harrison Hamilton I (1677-1762).
WILLIAM HAMILTON was born abt. 1685 in County Down, Ireland. He may have been a son of an "Archibald Hamilton" [he named his 1st-born son "Archibald"]. He married ALICE [MANN], and they came to America and located in Pennsylvania in 1737 [sic = New Castle, Delaware, in 1740] before settling in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1750. They came with all their children, some of whom were married. On 20 May 1761, WILLIAM HAMILTON was exempted from tax by the Augusta County Court on account of "great age and infirmity". He died about 1762.

From "A Hamilton Family Story", pp. 9-12: "Our oldest proven ancestor, William Hamilton, Sr., (wife Alse or Alice [Mann])... [was] born in Ireland although [his] ancestors were from Scotland. William Hamilton III of Jackson County, Missouri, relates a story that William Sr.'s wife was from Dublin. No marriage record has been located. William... was born about 1705 and had at least four children when they arrived in New Castle County, Delaware in 1740... This area was part of the state of Pennsylvania at that time [sic = a separate colony but they shared the same British Governor]. The family lived there about eight years and then [moved to Augusta County, Virginia]."

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:
I believe there is a conflation of 2 different William Hamiltons here. The William Hamilton who married Alice Mann in 1735 in Ulster, Ireland, was first married to Agnes Symm, in Scotland. Their only son was Robert Hamilton, b: 1731, who pioneered Kerr Creek in Virginia and died there. Several of the children listed here do not match those of William & Alice (Mann) Hamilton either, notably Nancy Ann, b: 1750 in Virginia but who married John P. Waters in 1771; she did die in 1833 in Greenbriar VA (later WV). See note below.
You show Nancy Hamilton marrying William McCoy, and dying in Greenbriar co Va/WV in 1833. While I agree with these facts, I have them both born in the 1740's , with William's death in 1795, and Nancy dying Feb 10 1834. I think Nancy was the daughter of some other Hamilton, possibly one of the children you listed being born in the 1710's. Since William was born about 1685, I doubt he fathered any kids past about 1720.
The last name "Farmer" probably reflects his profession not last name. Since none of his children bear the last name of Farmer. I also do not think his father was John, but was Audley Hamilton. Will investigate further.
Hamilton-3215 and Hamilton-6804 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, same spouse. In the text of the bio for hamilton-6804, it states birth date is 1695, not 1705.
