Story

I am listing this as a story because I have not seen the documentation or evidence. However, the person who told it to me is a well-respected family researcher of the Families Hammon, Stone and Hall

Name Change From Hammond to Hammon By Scott Hammon Hendricks

Last night, 21 June 2021 some of the descendants of Wendell Philucius Hammon had a family Zoom reunion. Roberta Ruth 'Bert" Jaeger wife of John Lee Hammon my father's first cousin asked me if I knew that the family name was originally Hammond. Bert is one of the foremost family researchers for the families Hammon, Stone and Hall. When I told her 'no', she recounted (without digging to the numerous boxes of history) that the original family to migrate to Colonial British America were named Hammond, and that there was a deep schism in the family of Thomas Hammond and Alice Stone. It was sufficient to cause son, Daniel Hammond, my 3rd great-grandfather to move from New York to western Pennsylvania and to change his name to Hammon, as not to be associated with the family Hammond. So apparently, here begins the new family name of Hammon.
