Charles Richard Hammond was born on January 21, 1871 in German Bay, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand, son of James Hammond (1827–1886) and Elizabeth Anne Harris (1832–1909).

Charles (25) married Mary Ann Wright (21) (born in 1875 in Canterbury, New Zealand) about 1897. [1]

Their children were:

Charles died in 1955, aged 83.
