DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Rasselas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
It is possible that the unknown, older resident in the 1885 Iowa Census--Andrew Davis--could be a brother or other relative of Huldah Davis, Rasselas's mother.
The big question here is that he moved from Iowa, to Missouri, sometime after being widowed (after 1895). Why did he move there? Was there a relative he was close to? His children had moved all over-William in Nebraska, Emma L stayed in Vermont, and George W moved to Canada.
Sarah is listed as marrying R.W. Hammond in 1907, but is this actually Rasselas? In the 1910 US Census, Racellas/Rasellas is listed as living in Ozark in Texas County, and Sarah Carmichel is listed as living in Piney. The two towns are roughly a hundred miles apart. Was it a long distance relationship? Sarah is listed as being married, not divorced at this time.
